Chocolate Waffles

Chocolate Waffles

Full of chocolate, crisp and airy waffles. Great breakfast or early lunch treat.

Thanks to the combination of Dutch Cocoa and Chocolate these waffles have double chocolate flavour without compromising crispiness (not gooey!).

If you can get it - bake on kefir for extra puffy and airy waffles.

Chocolate Waffles

Yield: 15 waffles

Time: 10 minutes prep + 30 minutes cooling + baking time

Equipment: waffle maker

- 3 and 1/3 cups* (500g) all-purpose flour

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 4 Tablespoons (48g) caster sugar or confectioners’ sugar

- 1 Tablespoon vanilla sugar (optional)

- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

- 2 Tablespoons (15g) Dutch Cocoa

- 2 and 1/2 cups (625ml) full-fat milk or kefir

- 2 large eggs

- 125g salted or unsalted butter

- 55g Dark Chocolate or 3 Tablespoons (55g) Nutella

- 2 Tablespoons (15g) Dutch Cocoa

*cup = 250ml cup

1. Prepare dry ingredients: Sift flour with salt, sugar, vanilla sugar (if using), baking powder and cocoa. Set aside.

2. Prepare chocolate: Melt butter, add coarsely chopped chocolate, continue cooking on low heat and stir until chocolate is fully melted. If using Nutella - mix with milk (or kefir) until combined.

3. Combine: add milk (or kefir), eggs, chocolate mixture (from Step 2) to dry ingredients (from Step 1). Whisk until combined. Refrigerate the waffle batter for 30 minutes before baking. The batter should be fairly thick.

4. Preheat waffle maker and bake following producer’s instructions. Once baked cool waffles on the cooling rack for 2 minutes - chocolate waffles are more elastic straight after baking and need time to set and become crisp before serving.
